A couple of days ago, a doctor submitted a comment on this site asking why electronic stethoscopes still have the form and function of conventional stethoscopes. It's a good question with a rather uninteresting answer - tradition! Various companies have conducted focus groups and the conventional wisdom is that the stethoscope is such a strong icon of medicine, no company should mess with the form.
